Our Curriculum.

Gombe Secondary School follows a syllabus provided by the National Curriculum Development Centre in all subjects. It accepts students from the age of 13 years into the lower school where they follow a comprehensive range of subjects in preparation for U.N.E.B examinations.
The “O” Level programme is four years with S.1 and S.2 offering a range of up to 18 subjects while those in S.3 and S.4 will offer 10 subjects.
The “A” level programme is two years and students will be allowed to take up to 3 principle subjects,2 Subsidiary subjects

The Lower Secondary Curriculum (O-Level)

The Lower Secondary Curriculum (LSC) covers Senior One (S.1) to Senior Four (S.4) and is comprehensive, culminating in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination.

The Advanced Secondary Curriculum (A-Level)

The Advanced Secondary Curriculum covers Senior Five (S.5) to Senior Six (S.6) and culminates in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examination.

Our Curriculum

Gombe Secondary School follows a syllabus provided by the National Curriculum Development Centre in all subjects. It accepts students from the age of 13 years into the lower school where they follow a comprehensive range of subjects in preparation for U.N.E.B examinations.

The school covers all required academic subjects, with a strong emphasis on Science:

  • Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics.

  • Arts: English Language, History, Geography, Literature in English.

  • Languages: Luganda, Arabic, French, German.

  • Religious Education: Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Christian Religious Education (CRE).

The Advanced Secondary Curriculum covers Senior Five (S.5) to Senior Six (S.6) and culminates in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examination.

  • Subjects Offered: Students are allowed to take up to four principle subjects (often three main subjects and General Paper).

  • Combos: The school offers a wide variety of subject combinations across Sciences (PEM, BCM, PCB, etc.) and Arts (HEG, GEL, HIS, etc.).

In line with the new LSC and the goal of making students self-reliant, Gombe SS incorporates practical skills subjects accredited by the **Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT)**:

* **Process:** Learners are introduced to **four trades in Senior One**. They choose **one trade** for formal examination in Senior Three (S.3) and are issued a DIT Certificate.
* **Trades Offered:**
* Computer Applications (ICT)
* Bakery and Pastry
* Commercial Artefacts
* Farming

Gombe SS is committed to holistic education by integrating:

  • Co-curricular Activities: Sports, clubs, and societies are mandatory components of the curriculum to develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.

  • Religious and Moral Grounding: Through IRE and CRE, the school aims to instill moral and ethical values, aligning with its mission to produce “God fearing, responsible and self-reliant citizens.”
